Moving Organizer

To effectively organize your move on moving day, you should print this page out and keep it handy. Once you complete the items on the list, check them off. When the list is complete, you should be ready to move to your new home!

  • Make a decision on exactly what is to be moved and what is to be given away or sold. Donate for a tax credit
  • Arrange all of your stuff to be moved and have them brought to one location (or two if necessary); besure that all the items you've decided to donate are gone.
  • Determine if storage will be necessary at your new destination and pick the location.
  • Construct a list of everyone you will need to notify about your up and coming move: friends, professionals, creditors, subscriptions, etc.
  • Start a subscription to the local paper in your new city to familiarize yourself with local government, social news and activities.
  • Gather your records from schools, doctors, dentists, lawyers, veterinarians, accountants, and the Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • Fill out change of address cards through your postal service.
  • Arrange for utility and related companies to disconnect/connect at your old and new addresses. Don't forget to have utilities turned off at your current home the day after moving day and turned on at your new home the day before move in day to ensure service throughout moving day.
  • Arrange for insurance coverage changes for your automobile, homeowner's or renter's, medical, and life.
  • Gather all your important papers to take with you and put in a safe place, such as insurance documents, revenue department records, automobile registration, deeds, stock certificates, wills, etc.
  • Arrange to close your accounts in your local bank.
  • Start a bank account in your new localtion.
  • Service your vehicles. (change oil - tune up)
  • Defrost your freezer and refrigerator. (Dry in out to prevent mold)
  • Create an "Unload Me First" carton with essentials you will need immediately at your new home. Include a zip lock baggy filled with hardware from disassembled items, such as dresser, mirrors and beds. Have this boxor boxes loaded last or carry it with you in your car.
  • Call your move coordinator to confirm details of your move.

P.S. If you decided to use friends for the move order a pizza people wll get hungry and start dragging around or leave and don't seem to find their way back. LOL
