YouTube recently changed how content is monetized, which means full-time creators like myself, who depend on monetization to feed our families, have to work much harder to get things off the ground. I now need 1000 Subscribers, and a certain number of watched hours, so it would be much appreciated if you could show your support by both watching my videos and subscribing (if you haven’t already) and make sure to hammer that bell icon, so that you get updates when I publish new content!
Monetization means I can I can invest in this channel by buying new gear to use and review, as well as traveling to places to film. Everyone seemed to love the Nova Scotia and Mont Tremblant videos this year!
Thanks so much for you support!

Laura Kelly and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Monday, a majority of Americans now live in a state with a Democratic governor.
The two inaugurations mean 175 million people ― a majority of the United States’ estimated population of 325 million ― have Democratic governors. Pritzker, a billionaire former businessman who will govern the 12.8 million people of Illinois, easily defeated incumbent Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner in 2018. Kelly, a former state legislator, defeated Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who was infamous for his conservative views on immigration and voting.
The GOP will still have a majority of the nation’s governorships — 27 states have Republicans leading them, compared to 23 states led by Democrats. Before the 2018 elections, Republicans had a 34-15 advantage, and Alaska had an independent governor.
Democrats picked up seven gubernatorial seats previously held by Republicans in November, running mostly on a message of expanding health care coverage and increasing education funding. They also narrowly lost elections in Ohio, Florida and Georgia.
“This past November, Americans loudly rejected the chaos and failed policies of Washington D.C. by electing Democratic governors in record-setting fashion,” Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo, the chair of the Democratic Governors’ Association, said in a statement. “Now, a majority of Americans can count on a Democratic governor to expand access to affordable health care, invest in strong public schools, and fight for an economy that works for all.”
Former Rep. Michele Lujan Grisham, a Democrat, was sworn in as New Mexico’s governor on New Year’s Day. She is one of just two governors of color in the entire country.
But despite Democratic gains in 2018, the nation’s governors still don’t look much like the nation’s population. There are no black governors — while Democrats nominated black candidates in Florida, Georgia and Maryland, all of them lost. And there are just two governors of color – David Ige in Hawaii and newly-elected Michele Lujan Grisham in New Mexico, the first Latina Democrat elected to a governorship in U.S. history.
And while a record number of women were elected to Congress in 2018, there are still just nine female governors in the country: Republicans Kay Ivey of Alabama, Kim Reynolds of Iowa and Kristi Noem of South Dakota; and Democrats Kelly, Grisham, Raimondo, Janet Mills of Maine, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan and Kate Brown of Oregon.

Gillnetting is a common fishing method used by commercial and artisanalfishermen of all the oceans and in some freshwater and estuary areas. Gill nets are vertical panels of netting normally set in a straight line. Fish may be caught by gill nets in three ways :
wedged – held by the mesh around the body
gilled – held by mesh slipping behind the opercula,
tangled – held by teeth, spines, maxillaries, or other protrusions without the body penetrating the mesh.
Most often fish are gilled. A fish swims into a net and passes only part way through the mesh. When it struggles to free itself, the twine slips behind the gill cover and prevents escape.”
Gillnets are so effective that their use is closely monitored and regulated by fisheries management and enforcement agencies. Mesh size, twine strength, as well as net length and depth are all closely regulated to reduce bycatch of non-target species. Gillnets have a high degree of size selectivity. Most salmon fisheries in particular have an extremely low incidence of catching non-target species.

Gillnets existed in ancient times, as archaeological evidence from the Middle East demonstrates. In North America, Native American fishermen used cedar canoes and natural fibre nets, e.g., made with nettles or the inner bark of cedar. They would attach stones to the bottom of the nets as weights, and pieces of wood to the top, to use as floats. This allowed the net to suspend straight up and down in the water. Each net would be suspended either from shore or between two boats. Native fishers in the Pacific Northwest, Canada, and Alaska still commonly use gillnets in their fisheries for salmon and steelhead.
Both drift gillnets and setnets have long been used by cultures around the world. There is evidence of fisheries exploitation, including gillnetting, going far back in Japanese history, with many specific details available from the Edo period (1603–1868). Fisheries in the Shetland Islands, which were settled by Norsemen during the Viking age, share cultural and technological similarities with Norwegian fisheries, including gillnet fisheries for herring. Many of the Norwegian immigrant fishermen who came to fish in the great Columbia River salmon fishery during the second half of the 19th century did so because they had experience in the gillnet fishery for cod in the waters surrounding the Lofoten Islands of northern Norway. Gillnets were used as part of the seasonal round by Swedish fishermen as well. Welsh and English fishermen gillnetted for Atlantic salmon in the rivers of Wales and England in coracles, using hand-made nets, for at least several centuries. These are but a few of the examples of historic gillnet fisheries around the world.
Gillnetting was an early fishing technology in colonial America,[vague] used for example, in fisheries for Atlantic salmon and shad. Immigrant fishermen from northern Europe and the Mediterranean brought a number of different adaptations of the technology from their respective homelands with them to the rapidly expanding salmon fisheries of the Columbia River from the 1860s onward. The boats used by these fisherman were typically around 25 feet (8 m) long and powered by oars. Many of these boats also had small sails and were called “row-sail” boats. At the beginning of the 1900s, steam powered ships would haul these smaller boats to their fishing grounds and retrieve them at the end of each day. However, at that time gas powered boats were beginning to make their appearance, and by the 1930s, the row-sail boat had virtually disappeared, except in Bristol Bay, Alaska, where motors were prohibited in the gillnet fishery by territorial law until 1951.
A fisherman repairs a gillnet (April 1973, St. Helens, Oregon)
In 1931, the first powered drum was created by Laurie Jarelainen. The drum is a circular device that is set to the side of the boat and draws in the nets. The powered drum allowed the nets to be drawn in much faster and along with the faster gas powered boats, fisherman were able to fish in areas they had previously been unable to go into, thereby revolutionizing the fishing industry.
During World War II, navigation and communication devices, as well as many other forms of maritime equipment (ex. depth-sounding and radar) were improved and made more compact. These devices became much more accessible to the average fisherman, thus making their range and mobility increasingly larger. It also served to make the industry much more competitive, as the fisherman were forced to invest more in boats and equipment to stay current with developing technology.

Views:1462|Rating:4.92|View Time:3:22Minutes|Likes:63|Dislikes:1 When most people think of the Remington Arms they think of firearms and rightfully so. They’ve been making guns since 1816. But what many people people are unaware of, is that at the turn of the 20th century, Remington produced a variety of products.
According to Remington spokesman Mark Eddy, who recently gave me a tour of the company’s museum in Ilion, New York, the gun maker loved to invite inventors to present their ideas. After all, the Remingtons were inventors themselves, possessed the capital to invest and loved the creative spirit. Unfortunately, this eagerness contributed to the company going bankrupt in 1888. The Remingtons invested a great deal of money into products that were not always successful.
However, many products, some of which were on display at the museum, were very successful. These included typewriters, sewing machines, cash registers and bicycles. They generated income in between wars and kept the company afloat.
Production of these products continued after Remington was bought by Marcellus Hartley of Union Metallic Cartridge Company in 1888. However, all production of these products halted when DuPont took ownership in the mid 1930s.
